Noticeable Difference In Mosquitoes Between These Resorts?

Thanks for all the input here folks. Looks like whenever one is out of the water on the islands, bug spray will be warranted each morning and night. Maybe the only way to avoid getting bitten in Belize is via liveaboard.

At Itza on Long Caye [1] I only put on bug spray / lotion when going down for dinner, and once in a while if I was fussing with gear right at sunrise [2]. Even an hour after sunrise I didn't bother.

I'm wondering if there are any noticeable differences in mosquitoes between these resorts - Huracan, Dive Belize Haven and Blackbird - during the months from May to November. I know that Huracan rooms are nestled inland into the jungle a bit which would likely result in the worse case in terms of mosquitoes.

I just got back from Belize Dive Haven. Mosquitoes were horrible. I currently have at least 40 bites and that’s using Off with 25% DEET everywhere.—even on my face. We ate 95% of our meals in our room. We will not return because of the mosquitoes. Food was also horrible. Pool closed due to a leak. Elevators not working. Cold water for showers for 2 days. 15 feet Sargassum with brown water and smell.

Full disclosure: showers at Itza are cold water. It wasn't a big deal for me, but I can understand if that was a deal breaker for some people. The two potential deal breakers of no air-conditioning and cold showers somewhat balanced out for me. There was some sargassum when we were there, but no smell that I noticed, and the staff cleaned up the beach pretty quickly.
