No way.

Wetsuit rental - what, $20?

333 x 20 = $6,660. THat's an expensive drysuit! A used drysuit with undies, etc, can be found for $500 on E-Bay. That's 25 rentals.

hey you're lucky i didn't pull 666.666666 out of my.... calculator

Let's see. $700 / 333.3333 = $2.10 per rental.

Not bad.

i'm an awesome haggler...

The question is, will I be warm enough if I get a 7mm that fits better? Or should I consider going dry?

I don't have the money to buy a drysuit, which means I'd have to keep freezing until I could save for one. Also means no money to go anywhere warmer to dive this year. But I also can't afford to waste $$ on getting a wetsuit that doesn't keep me warm for several hours at a time in 60* water.

You can get used drysuits at fairly decent prices. Sometimes all it takes is going to the mfg's websites. They often have suits listed there that people ordered (and abandoned), had repaired (and abandoned) or simply are getting rid of previous year's stock.

Also, check with local dive shops. That's how I got my first drysuit: someone had ordered it, put down a deposit, then walked away from it. Not only did they get the suit altered to fit me (the other person had longer legs) but the price of $600 Cdn was hard to beat.

If LDS'es are not helpful, start asking your dive buds. You'd be surprised how small the dive community is and how good a deal you can get when someone decides to trade up to a more expensive suit but doesn't know what to do with their old one!

Whatever way you go, go dry. You won't regret it!

How many ill-fitting, peed-in wet suits do you need to rent to have paid the same money as you would for a used drysuit?
Aren't pre-peed suits warmer? :D $0 x any number still leaves me with nothing for a drysuit. My instructor lets me use the rentals for nothing. Otherwise, I would certainly have been asking myself the same question you did.

Aren't pre-peed suits warmer

yes and i think i can prove it...

consider a never-peed on suit. it has GOT to be colder
than a suit that has just been peed on.

ERGO any suit that has EVER been peed on has got to be
warmer than any suit that has NEVER been peed on.

and the more the incidence of pee, the higher the average
thermal temperature therein.

n'est pas?
