I just started using Nitrox. I was under the impression that 36% was to be used in 80-90 feet of water. And that Nitrox was not for the use of shollow water dives. Could this couse that problem?

Please let us know how this turns out!!!!

NO! EAN36 has a maximum operating depth of 90'. This is due to the risk of oxygen toxicity. The main benefit from EAN36 for increased bottom time and decreased surface interval requirements is between approx. 60' and 90'. However, there is no problem or risk from using EAN36 in 8' of water. There probably isn't any appreciable benefit, but this wouldn't be the cause of his issues.

You wouldn't think you could get bent in 8' of water, but I'm sure it's possible. Given your symptoms, absolutely call DAN and your physician. Get to the bottom of what's going on, regardless of whether it's DCS or not. Don't keep putting it off!

Please review your nitrox manual and don't use nitrox until you do. I say this because I love.;)

To the OP...I think Roatan Man has it right. Much luck!

I wish I could, but the class that we took didn't have manuals for us to keep. We had to share what few there were. Sad but true! Suppose I should look up a site to purchase one. Till then, I will continue to learn from the best ;) Thanks again!

Wow...this probably warrants its own thread, but...

Not a knock on you, but you should probably consider retaking a nitrox course with a different instructor. The above story makes the course you took sound suspect to me, and Nitrox is one of those specialties where it is pretty important that you come out of the class understanding the concepts....

Just out of curosity, what agency did you take your Nitrox class with? All of my classes that I had taken had always given me the books that we worked out of.

We should start a new thread on this topic if anyone is interested. Out of respect for the owner of the shop which was separate from the DM instructing, I can't give the shop name. But the Nitrox class was NASE. My OW was PADI. I didn't feel like I learned anything from the NASE class. BUT the OW class was GREAT. I feel like we were rushed through the class.

Please go back and reread your nitrox book!! You have it backwards.

Please buy a manual and do the knowledge reviews. Your life and the life of your buddy will depend on it.
