I've book marked this thread. Please let us know how it turns out :D

Seriously though......why would you consider this. Unless the above post is just to get a response. I see that you have 3 posts. Was your post in this thread #1 or #3?

<edit> I see it was your 3rd and the other two were basically about how expensive everything is.

Wow, what an easy way to permanately ignore a new troll. Thanks for making it so easy.

New troll logs on and in first 3 posts creates a thread that is just completely dumb. Then... I click ignore. Wow, this could be the start of something truly great.

And he has been waiting since September 2008 to start this thread! Slow troll!

Why all the negativity? It was a creative way to ask a legitimate question.

Oh, come on. All you people who are complaining about the OP trolling, have posted a comment in his thread, so in effect are helping his cause, as am I right now apparently. I personally think its kinda funny, at least its not another spare-air thread. Heck the newest spare air thread has 145 comments and 3,463 views. Now that to me is some serious trolling. This is some good stuff.

By the way, to the OP, get your regs serviced at least once in a while, I have a feelling you won't be very happy if you are breathing underwater in one moment, and the next, you are not breathing underwater. Is it really worth a few dollars? Hmmm, I guess that depends on a persons perspective...

Servicing your regulator is a lot like getting a prostate exam. Nobody really "likes" having it done but it beats the alternative.

That catastrophic failure mode is really quite remote (outside of a maintenance error or defective part) unless you just ignore the warning signs of a developing problem.

As a side view, has anyone considered the economics of this attitude?

I do not mean a saving money, but more of a break even idea.

How much does it cost to service your reg each year?

I know I have paid the cost of a new reg many times over in yearly service costs.

Maybe I should just toss my reg and buy a new every 3 (4 ?) years. Not sure I want to go that long with an unserviced reg. But something to consider?

Well, if you can get 2 years out of a HOG set before service and can resell it for half what you paid, you'd be in good shape. I bet all that's possible too. Call me in two years when you want to sell.
