this is the first time we have dove the east end of grand cayman. we have dove the west side side of grand cayman, cayman brac, and little cayman a number of times. we just came from a week on little cayman, which was spectacular as always.

we had like 8 ft vis on the first dive today under the boat with big swells and wind. a number of people were barfing over the side. the dive master could not find the boat under water and had to surface to find the boat on both morning dives (north east side). the day before we dove the south east side and vis was 65 to 85 ft, but the dive sites looked fairly boring. not that much marine life and deeper profile sites. shallowest on first dive is about 60 ft.

we have 3 more days left of diving here. can i expect it to improve?

thx
Bruce

That sucks. I don't think I've ever run into conditions like that there. But the east end is certainly known for being rough sometimes when the wind is unfavorable. They say they can dive 3 sides, which is true as far as it goes and gives them some options to find better conditions. But that doesn't necessarily mean they can always find a lee or dive the best sites. As far as it improving, what does the weather forecast say? If it's a continuation of the same general windspeed and direction, then probably not so much.

The low viz is surprising. Fairly rough seas are not. There are some spectacular wall dives to the East, but they are weather dependent and fairly deep. First dive out East is almost always 100 ft. Who are you diving with?

I did east end dives with ocean frontiers. The dives are weather dependent and are typically deep 100ft etc on the wall. We had a good time, with great vis and seas weren't rough. But i'm accustomed to rough seas where i dive so might be a little subjective

we are staying at compass point and diving with ocean frontiers.

Grand Cayman has good diving, but you should be aware that if you want great diving then the Brac and Little Cayman will always win out IMHO:thumbs-up.

we were on little cayman for a week before coming here. we have dove brac and grand cayman before as well.

Remember how bad the weather has been the last week. Very strong winds, rough seas, a lot of rain. Runoff, silt and sediment generally everywhere. All the dive sites are below what most would class as "normal" as a result.

we dove the same dive site (anchor point) as the one i mentioned in the OP again today and it was spectacular along along the wall.
