Well folks it is offical, we now have a site and a growing group. You can check out our new site at www.northcoastdivers.org. Hopefully this will help encourge more people to discover the wonderful diving to be had along the North Coast. So, let's start by defining the North Coast. Our area generally comprises the California coast from Sonoma County up to Mendocino County.

Everyone is invited to our first offical get together on Sunday, April 9th at Stillwater Cove. See you there!

cool, hope to be there and meet the gang.

So johnny does this mean that we can be friends? I just don't think I could bear it if we weren't friends:D

I am gathering many photos I've had in a filing cabinet and also ones on my computer for an extensive photo gallery and also for visuals to go with a dive site information page. I literally have hundreds of high quality slides to sort through that need to be scanned.

I'm feeling left out...if Humboldt isn't the North Coast then what the heck is it?? :D

There's diving as far north as Crescent City I hear. I live out near the Lost Coast (Shelter Cove). It isn't divable much, but there's some crazy stuff up here I hear. There's Delgada Trench, which is like the Monterey Canyon of the north. And a local last year told me he was out ab diving at Bear Harbor with dozens of leopard sharks.

Anyway, maybe we'll get a nice stretch this summer and y'all can come up this way for a few days of adventure. I'll have the taps ready to flow :D

Sorry about that Gregg. I only said 'generally", because that is where most of us dive. However, you are right, the North Coast goes all the way to Oregon, so don't feel left out. you are most definitely part of the family:D

I have dove the Delgada Trench. As far As I know we were probably the first to ever dive it, at least in the exact location where we were.
I've spent time up in Eureka and further up in Trinidad. I didn't get a chance to dive there but the diving looks like it would be good out of Trinidad and North. There is an offshore rock called Reading Rock that towers up out of the ocean and plumets straight down to 200 feet deep at the base, at least so I am told. I can only imagine the scallops growing there! They say a 50-60 lb Lingcod is nothing unusual.

The world record abalone was taken out of Petrolia somewhere (exact location is top secret). I would like to check that area out.

I've checked out Cape Mendocino on my Garmin Blue Charts maps and there is a spot by Sea Lion Rock that reads 6 feet and 5 feet away it goes straight down to 228 feet!

So I am no stranger to Humboldt County. You are right, there is some great northern adventure waiting to be had up your way.

The only problem is nobody has any boats so that limits us as far as getting to some of the more remote and extreme spots.
I am planning a trip to Usal Creek and continuing onto Bear Harbor this summer. It would be great to get a group to do an expedition and maybe you could lead it.

Keep in mind when you think of spots for any club diving, they have to be shore based so there's no exclusion. That's one of the tenets of the club.

Great line too. So how did the Sunday dive go yesterday? Any report, pictures?

You can check out the report on our website. However, it was more of a BBQ, since we didn't get to dive.

We are going to have another one in May. Keep checking the board for details. See you there!
