It seems pretty certain that late Thursday night or early Friday morning a norte is coming with winds strong enough to close the port and Friday may be ugly. Saturday has a chance to be OK. We are moving our two beachable boats to the eastside and expect diving there on Sunday. However, this is just an observation from wind guru.com, yet it has been pretty reliable from two days out.

PS If it is a partial closure to boats smaller than 40ft we have our fast 40 footer "Falicity

Looks like it might be a little windy along Melgar for the Carnival parade on Saturday night.

You in town? Lets drink?

"yet it has been pretty reliable from two days out". Glad to see another here understands that beyond 3 days out the forecasters may as well be reading tea leaves when it comes to weather in Coz!

Dear Deepsea21,

In order to anticipate potential weather problems we HAVE to prepare ourselves more than 2 days out. You see, diving the other side and other factors have to be considered well in advance for a dive operator like Aldora. For instance, in this case we decided to service and move our east side beachable boats over to Chen Rio fully 6 days out. If we had waited until Thursday it wold have been too late.

So, our point is well taken that CERTAINTY is not possible 6 or more days days out. However, prudence dictates that we consider it. Also, wind guru.com has a star system in which they rate the certainty of their forecast and we watch that closely as well.

It's always god to plan ahead, and weather predictions can be off but trying to recover at the last minute isn't a good plan.

Sounds good to me Dave. I'm not in the dive business... I'm a dive traveler who shows up once a year for a few weeks in Coz and I have to say the quality dive ops I've been diving with over the past 14 years all do their best in planning for weather should it come or not. I well remember when you called that last Norte I called you on and, as it turned out, you were spot on as I believe the port was closed those days you predicted. The point I am trying to make was for tourists and visitors that try to plan their trips based forecasts beyond 3 days out. Beyond three days out, I say no one who is going to be visitng the island should plan their trip around long range forecasts.

I am now afraid to drink with you! Last time I think you gave me a qualude maggie and assaulted my wallet.

Dave, Don't worry.
You guys can invite me and I can be the monitor. Besides, I have never had drinks with Dave. (That I can remember)
I will be the hall safety monitor! Send me a message on facebook. I am not on here much these days.
