Off to Alor in August for diving, but perhaps with some non-diving days to spare. Does anyone have ideas on some non-diving days trips, places to see, activities, etc. that are near Alor? Or even a good website to find such things?

Hi Valwood1,

there are some non-diving activities around Alor:
- a hot spring (too hot to take a bath) about 3 to 4 hours away from Kalabahi
- a small village (forgot the name) where the inhabitants still live close to the nature (but it get's more touristy now and of course, they have mobile phones, too)
- some beaches
- Ternate, a small village on a neighbouring island where they produce hand-woven blankets. Depending on the dive-site [EDIT]you[/EDIT] might go there during your surface interval.

If you have more time there is a still active volcano (Gunung Sirung; you still see the red lava and the fumes) on Pantar which you can climb. BUT: You will need at least two days time and have to be physically fit to climb it.

If you dive with Thomas (Diving in Alor) chances are high that you visit some interesting places on neighbouring islands during your surface intervals. Just talk with him.

HTH,

Andy

Thanks, Andy. I am diving with Thomas, so I'll be sure to ask him.
