Hello. I am a new diver and would like some information about great diving spots in new jersey. If anyone could recommend some, especially those sites with some interesting marine life, such as dolphins, that would be great. thanks

Welcome to the Board! First, check out Wreck Valley. Next, fill in your profile so we can learn a little more about you. :D Finally, take it slow. NJ diving is different than what you're probably used to. You probably got certified at Dutch Springs or Round Valley. Continue to dive at those places for a while and improve your skills. Then book a spot on a boat with a local shop. Let them know your experience level and what you're looking for. Diving with dolphins? It won't likely happen. Dolphins tend to stay away from the bubbles. You'll have better luck snorkeling with dolphins...although that will be difficult to do too. There's lots of interesting marine life out there. It just won't likely be dolphins.

Welcome from a fellow Jersey diver!

I too am relatively new to diving (OW cert in February) but have been bitten hard, and have about 20 NJ boat dives under my weight belt. There are so MANY dive spots off the coast that it's nearly impossible to list them.

The area between the tip of Cape May and the tip of Long Island is nicknamed "Wreck Valley" because of all the wrecks out there. Wrecks out here are loaded with marine life. I'm a Jersey boy born and raised, but I had no idea there would be that many fish out there. Truly amazing.

I'd suggest you get AOW certified and get out on a boat! Dutch is a great place to take a class, but if you want to DIVE come out to Lake Atlantic.

Where in NJ are you? Where'd you train?

Look forward to diving with you some day - Ray

Another Jersey diver here. There are a few charter boats that go out of Belmar. All of the divers are very friendly. Try the Stingray or the Outlaw. I'm on the the Stingray every wed night and usually one day on the weekends. Now is a god time to start diving Jersey. The conditions have been relatively calm, but diving NJ is very different so make sure you are prepared. Remember you must have either doubles or a pony bottle to dive off of a boat in NJ.

Welcome to the board.
