I just purchased a doohicky that lets me fill my car tires from my scuba tanks. My tanks are usually filled with 38 percent nitrox. Where can I go to get my tires, wheel and stem O2 cleaned? Where does the green/yellow nitrox sticker go? Are there any tire makers that sell nitrox ready tires?

Assuming a PO2 of 1.6 how long do I have to stop the car after going 102 feet? I heard that Suuntire makes a nitrox tire computer but I can't seem to find it or should I use "Tire Tables".

Help as I don't want any explosions.

the rated pressure as marked on the sidewall of the tire, you should not need to O2 clean them since you're filling from a pre-mixed SCUBA tank rather than PP filling. As far as stickers - the DIY way would just be a green magic marker on the whitewall side :D

Or better yet use 100% N2.

You could bring those tires and rims to my shop for O2 cleaning. Only $50/tire.

Seriously, you are only going to use the scuba to top the tires in an emergency so don't worry about it.
I would not use NITROX all the time for tires as the increased O2 will reduce the life of tires and possible cause the rims to rust faster.

Thanks for the post. Great sense of humor. :lol3: :35:

There have been several cases of tires exploding as they were being repaired. The cause was the use of some types of the "inflate in a can" tire inflators. Seems that they contained a liquid that expanded into a very flamable gas in the tire, a spark generated by the repair tools set it off. I am not sure what the effect of more oxygen in the mix would be but I suspect it would not be good.

herman most of these exploading tires occur when some one takes any type of torch to the rim, without taking the tire OFF first. having a explosive gas in a tire is a darwin award waiting to happen
