Hello, I'm a new PADI diver and would like to take a Nitrox Class. Does it matter where I take it as far as being a PADI course or not? What about a Nitrox online Class?

Thank you,
BB

You are qualified to take any of the Nitrox classes from any of the major agencies (I said it that way because there is at least one scam agency out there giving an online deal but I don't recall their name). Agencies that would be safe (not 100% inclusive and in random order) are NAUI, PADI,SSI, TDI,SDI, SEI, CMAS,IANTD...etc...there are more I am sure. How about posting the course you are thinking about taking and someone can tell you if it is legit.

I like online classes. I've done a few specifically through SDI. It is the same material as taught in class. You cannot move from one chapter to the next unless you get 100% on that chapters review. When you are all done, you then go to the shop/store/center and do a review with the instructor and then analyze a few tanks of gas and learn how that center does their gas protocols.

You can do the academic portion of the course at your own pace.

Today while waiting for the cable guy I've knocked through 6 chapters of a course, about 4 hours of work.

Just make sure that if you do this that your LDS teaches SDI. Can't do SDI online and then finish up PADI or other agency at your LDS.

And definitely stay away from SDA as many places do not recognize that certification. onlinenitroxlessons dot com is SDA.

When you sign up for an SDI class on online you have to 'affiliate' with a shop. If there is no shop in your market, well there is no shop in your market. I don't think it will let you take the course.

As Herk Man said, you can't mix and match agencies for the course.

PADI teaches it online as well.

Llike the others have said it does not matter which agency you choose and the online course like PADI does allow you to go at your own pace.
Another option that we use is to send you the new PADI Enriched Air crew pak in the mail to do your academics with ahead of time and again at your own pace. Its version includes a dive simulator so that you use a nitox compatable computer to plan you dives instead of the tables which in reality is the best way to dive on nitrox since it takes in account multi level diving. This means that by using Nitrox combined with a nitrox computer you will maxamise your bottom time to its fullest!
Since you will have finished most of your academics at home when you go to meet up with your instructor you will go over some knowledge reviews and then take a short exam and you are finished with the exception of learning how to analyze what is in your tank and doing the dives which are optional.
You may find that this is actually a cheaper option than the online course.

Where and by what major agency you does it dont matter much.
That it IS a major agency does matter as far as it being recognized when you go diving and the instructor will of course be of as much influence in the nitrox course as any other class.
