Just wondering what the "going rates" are for the PADI Enriched Air course. Here in Northern Va, I'm looking to sign up with a LDS, and it sounds like most are charging about $99 for the class + $73 for cost of materials. \

Are these good prices?

Is there any way to get around buying the materials (DVD, tables, workbook) or could I just get by with the workbook?

Thanks! :14:

I just signed up for PADI nitrox class here in Mass. and I paid the same amount for the same items. $100 for the class and rest for DVD, book, and 3 tables. After looking at the DVD, I'm not sure that was worth much as far as education goes. I think that I could learn the material from the book w/o the DVD.

I am taking this course through a new LDS because my regular shop has closed while moving to a new location so I wasn't too sure about whether they were overcharging me or not. Sounds like we are both paying the same amount.

Down here it's about $150 usually, I think with book included. One lady I know of will provide you the book for the class--it goes back to her when you are done--but you only pay $100. Of course, you pick up the tab for any park entrance fees and your air, but it's the best price around.

Another guy will add nitrox to your class for $125ish.

The prices you paid are reasonable.

I must protest. If I understand the question correctly? The primary concern in your question is: cost of the course and material, right? There is not one word about the qualifying factors or knowledge of the person doing the instruction. Are they competent, thorough or is the fact that teaching "life support skills" is of no importance.

For which agency and what does it include? Our PADI shop charges $95, which includes everything. Each student is required by PADI to own the manual and tables and a PADI RDP. You must watch, but not own the DVD.

I charge $175 for the Nitrox course. That includes the manual and tables. I load students the DVD to watch. A lot will depend on what the LDS/Instructor provides. I take my Nitrox students diving vs. just doing the classroom only.

$99 here for everything. We do not take you diving anymore, which we think sucks. Howvere we usually add it to the AOW class so students get the entire EANX experience.

I hope the woman who keeps the book is not a PADI instructor as that is a cheap shot at her peers.

Not PADI, but my LDS does $75 for the class plus the book which was $20 if I remember correctly. There was an option to go on a dive with an instructor with Nitrox after the class but it wasn't required for the certification so I wasn't quite sure of the point of it.

This weekend, I took Nitrox course in Saba, and paid $120. Book was $40 more but I had one already that I bought in St. Martaan's a few months ago. DVD was shown in class.
Then I think it was $15 for the PADI card.

Worth every cent. Did 6 dives this weekend and I feel great - not at all tired. Dreading going back to air tomorrow! :)
