I just wanted to know what others have paid for there Nitrox certification. I went into my LDS to see what there upcoming Nitrox class was going to cost and it was $160. Seems way to high to me when you consider that I had 8 class room sessions for my OW class and 5 OW dives for $187 this one is only 1 class room and 2 OW dives. $160 seems very high compared to what I paid for my OW certification.

I can't believe the prices shops charge for courses
$160 for Nitrox
$187 for OW

Man that sucks no wonder no one makes any money in this industry, Instructors earn such poor wages. And Dive Masters get paid Peanuts!! It makes me sad.

There are very few LDS's that make money on the OW course, most will take a loss and try to make it up in gear sales and further education. If they can get you in the door for your OW then they hope you will stick around and do the more advanced training with them.

Prices I charge.

$350 - $450 for Nitrox depending on equipment the student has
$400 - $800 for OW Depending on gear and time taken.

Maybe you should shop around a bit there is an old saying that still holds true from time to time

You get what you pay for

Disclaimer the above prices are in Australian dollars :)

... but I bet the LDS did the OW for that price hoping they would make it up on gear purchases. Since there is less chance to sell gear to some one who already has a reg ( as most people at this point do)and just wants to do the class the LDS will charge more with whats in accordance for their time.

That's in line with what my LDS charges for Nitrox ($150.00 for class, plus books) group class. That means classes are on our schedule. Private (on your schedule) costs more.

Sydney_Diver, I believe that the low end of the prices you are charging are comparable to the group classes after you convert the currency.

Yep true mine are private not group

I checked with my LDS and their Nitrox Cert is just around $100.00 with books and pool dives. My LDS is SSI (don't know if that changes anything.)

SSI is generally (at least in my neck of the woods) cheaper for nitrox courses since they do not require dives as part of the certification.

Why dive nitrox in a pool?

A diving class that doesn't require diving isn't a class. Wel...at least it isn't diving.

Just pointing out that SSI is cheaper up here since they don't do dives.
