I'm a Fish!
hey guys,

i was wondering, when using nitrox, does it matter which blend you use first? eg if im going to be doing two dives on 32% and 36%, which one would be better to use for the first dive and why?

thanks a million! :)

whats the max depth of both dive? Basically you want to check first how deep you go see if there is a mix you cant take for a certain depth. with the 32 it should be no problem if you stay within recreation limit for the 36 you cant go deeper than 110 feet for 28 min so if one of your dive is deeper you should not take the 36 for it. other than that id say since it increase your no deco time you should probably use the one that give you more time on your favourite dive base on your planning

think you got your mixes mixed up 36 is good to 95.3 feet

true sorry 110 is for contingency only as your at 1.56 OPP.sorry about that. this is a good example why we body check. lol.

but hopefully he got the idea on how to choose still

Generally youre supposed to do the deepest dive first, deepest dive tend to require the leanest mix.. It really is in most places irrelevant though as its generally only 32% thats banked and delivered to the boats..

thanks guys.... typically the first dive will be off a wall at about 80 feet and the second on a shallow reef around 50 so depth is not a big issue, I was just wondering if it makes a difference to use the 32 or 36 first

Question is, if your deepest dive is to 80ft, why not just bring two tanks of 36% and be done with it? :p

EDIT: actually, at 80 ft you still have 30 minutes of square profile, rdp bottomn time, so why bring nitrox at all as youre more likely to run out of air than out of NDL :p

It matters as much as the depths of the dives matter... which may or may not matter at all. The "deepest dive first" mantra is a myth and has been debunked. You can do a shallow dive first and a deep one second, and you're not gonna be in any more danger than the other way around, as long as you stay within your NDL. (The second dive may be shorter, but that's a different story...) Bottom line is, adjust the mix to suit your MOD and ppO2 exposure while maximizing your NDL.

Do you bring enough gas on the dives that it makes it worthwhile to have two different blends?
