These batteries are actually going to be for a Flip Ultra - one of those toy flash-RAM camcorders. The cam takes 2 AA cells, and the battery pack it comes with are actually just two shrink-wrapped 2100mah NiMH rechargables. I get about 90 minutes of recording time off the included battery pack, so I'm hoping that the 2700mah ones stretch it a bit more towards the 2 hour capacity of the 8GB storage (and since our dives tends to run about that long).

Thanks again all. I picked up the LaCrosse charger, and it comes with some generic 2600mah cells that I'll try out. I might try some of the Sanyo or Maha 2,700s too, but since I recharge the batteries before every dive, the Eneloops don't hold a lot of value for me.

I'm still picking up a lot of good information on this thread, so I appreciate the continuing discussion.

For what it is worth...(and that may not be much)...should you decide to go the "Eneloop" by Sanyo direction, you can get them at Costco. There may be a million other places, but their pricing on the AA size that I bought was really good.
Hope this helps someone.

That flash cam looks pretty handy, have you tried it underwater? These would seem like a sure thing for the vacationing snorkel and dive crowd. I saw a guy using a Boston Scientific flash video cam in Kona, but it's only rated to 10 ft and this one is higher res.

I just picked up a LaCrosse BC-9009 yesterday. Wow, I can't believe this thing. And to think that I've been just plugging pairs of cells into "dumb" serial chargers all my life since I was like 12...amazing piece of equipment, and instantly intuitive to use. They really did their homework.

I'm also starting to see the value of Eneloops. In line with the old adage of everything looking like a nail once you've got a hammer, I originally got the batteries/charger for my Flip cam, but now I'm looking to replace all my alkies...and peripherals like my wireless mice, which are supposed to last up to a year on a single charge, would really benefit from the low-discharge batteries. I still don't need them on stuff I charge the night before the dive, though.

Spoolin - I've taken the Flip with an Ikelite housing out a couple of times, max depth only about 60ft so far. I'm planning on being out again tomorrow, but the conditions are supposed to be crazy bad...we'll see. Here are a couple of short clips I've made so far:

Don't you have a Maha as well? How do they compare?

LOL I hear you on this one. I seriously need to find a source for bulk Eneloop purchases! Although one thing is for sure: I'm using alkalines for the first few dives with any new light, until I'm satisfied it's water tight ever since a brand new Dorcy flooded on the first dive. The light would have been replaced, no problem, but losing 6 eneloops at the same time (which would NOT be replaced) would have sucked a lot worse.

Nice clips! Are those small jellyfish common up there? That was pretty.

And I loved the bunnies. :rofl3:

I've never had a Maha, sad to say. I've only used dumb chargers until now. Never again.

We've been getting our share of nettles, moons and egg yolks lately, but I've never seen these little guys before. They were just crowding the top foot or two of the water column, incredibly beautiful with the sunbeams hitting them. I think the recent storm probably washed them all away.

The bunnies have been gaining quite a fan club. One of these days I'll have to bring them to Lobos :)
