Just thought i'd pass this info along for you all Nikonians and coveters of new shiny toys like myself  :).

Thoughts all?
I can definitely see housings being manufactured for this camera, looks like an upgrade to the D70s.

dpreview.com:
Nikon has today put the end to the speculation and announced the new ten megapixel D80 digital SLR. This new camera is the natural successor to the D70/D70s with a refreshed design, user interface and a wide range of new features. Headline improvements are; 10.2 mp CCD, new image processing engine, 3D Color Matrix Metering II, 11-area AF system, configurable Auto ISO, configurable high ISO NR, a larger and brighter viewfinder, in-camera retouching (including D-Lighting), built-in wireless flash commander, SD card storage (with SD-HC support) and the D200's higher capacity battery. The D80 will go on sale in September with a body only price of $999 in the US, £699 in the UK or $1299 in the US, £949 in the UK as a kit with the new 18-135 mm DX lens.

Hmmmm, there are several things I hate about this "upgrade" to the d70s. One, why couldn't they keep the compact flash memory config instead of sd card? Two, new battery means I'll have to carry 2 kinds of batteries/charger when I do decide to upgrade and keep the d70s as a backup.

The EN-EL3e can use the same charger as the EN-EL3, and you should be able to use the EN-EL3e in both the D70s and D80.

And yes, I agree with the SD card issue. Also, for land photography, the drop in flash sync to 1/250th is a bit of a disappointment too.

Unless I'm looking to upgrade my camera, I stay away from checking out the new cameras too much. It can be depressing to see the improvements that have been made over my cameras I bought 8 months ago...
