Anyone using a S710 yet? I just got one and the housing with a strobe.

If anyone has used one, please give me some tips. Thanks.

congrats on your new camera. Have you used an underwater camera before?

your camera has full manual control, which is great. So I suggest you start off with ISO 100 and learn how to adjust your aperture, shutter speed and strobe power. you can practice indoors with your camera, housing, strobe.

Your macro mode only focuses as close as 4 inches so don't be surprised that you can't get closer.

Here some tips: Underwater Photography Tips, hopefully some of these will be helpful.

Yes, I have used one before.
I have a Kodak DX7590 (5 meg, not a SLR and not compact, just in between size) with an ikelite housing and strobe. (Ikelite has since discontinued this housing)
I shoot that one totally on manual settings only.

Some places we are going is remote and limited on luggage and that ikelite house is huge. So I decided to pick up a subcompact ikelite housing for the Nikon 710. Smaller and easier to transport. I am going to give it a try next week in Saba.

It seems the housing will not allow me to rotate the bezel to change the aperature or the shutter speed on the camera. Hummmmm, what to do.

Ikelite says to set it on aperature priority. However, if I am using the strobe, I am not quite sure what I should do. I guess the first day or two will be a great adventure in experimentation.

wow, that's really too bad, no manual mode with the housing? check the manual and see if there is another way to change aperture/shutter speed.

In aperture priority mode, when using the strobe, keep it at F8. When the flash is on, the shutter speed will default to 1/60th or 1/100th (see if you can control this), which should be ok most of the time, unless the subject is brightly lit by ambient light (e.g. - shallow water), in which case very little strobe light will be used, and your colors won't be as good.

hope this helps
