Hey guys-

Quick question...I'm a freediver, still working on finding time for my scuba certification. I've had a lot of success diving during the day for lobster in Malibu, CA, but am looking to step into night diving. I'm hoping it'll be more productive and exciting. I can go down to around 40' comfortably and am assuming that will be enough.

Any advice? I just got some good lights, but am not sure what the good spots are, or if any additional information would be helpful.

I'd appreciate any guidance from you more experienced guys. Thanks!

Matt

I have never actually used 'free diving' for lobster during the night. It seems to me like there are too many things going on to deal with this effectively. It might work well, but make sure you go with a buddy or three that are also very comfortable in the water and that you guys practice a lot and have a well rehearsed plan.

With scuba, you wear glow sticks or beacons to help your buddy see you in the darkness, but with free diving, where would you attach the sticks to? if you don't plan to use a light and a dive light fails, It might be a little difficult to keep tabs on where everyone is at.

My intention is not to discourage you from doing this, but just be careful and make sure to practice, with all the gear you would use at night, during the day.

Let us know how it goes.
