Has anyone ever dove off Venice at night. If so how was it.
I'm thinking of going down after the water warms up a bit.

Never done it, but thought about it. I'd be interested.

Hmmm......I think it's called a day dive. ;-)

I think it would be intresting to see what comes out at night out there on the small reef. I got good lights. I was thinking maybe it for a late afternoon dive and then wait for the sun to go down for the second dive. Place a light on shore as a referance. Could be interesting.

I grew up there and remember that the Venice Shark Club used to catch large sharks off the pier at night. Going at night we just might bump into all the ancestors of the ones that left all those teeth behind.....:shocked:HeHeHe!!!

It must be said that the one time i dove there i didnt see more than 2 fish - the viz was inches! Would anymore fish come out at night?? Also if something larger came (shark) would you even see it coming?? That would be a surprise!

That's my point, with viz the way it has been and the times I've dove there and couldn't see my dive buddy until I bumped into him could proove very interesting if you bump into something else and discover it's not your buddy... :jaws2:

I've been out there when the vis was pretty good (30'), and seen several schools of fish (and Walter and I came across some ornamentals once), not to mention the crabs, mantis shrimp, and other inverts there as well. They mostly are out in the 18' water (a bit beyond where we commonly go for teeth), where there are some corals (gargonians, mostly) and sponges... a miniature reef. This is what I've considered for a night dive here. I don't think it'd quite be the keys, but I do think that there would be some things of interest to see. On the other hand, like Wildbill, have heard of the sharks they pull up off the pier.

As we get closer maybe one of you guys that live down in that area can give us a report on vis. right now the gulf is messed up.
Then we get together and go for it.
