Yes... we went in ! We looked at the waves, and we were there to go in anyway, so we did !

We made it to ~20ft with a visibility that did not get better (~1 foot probably)... Not to mention the nice current we felt before turning back. The way out was really tough, but we ended up rolling ashore :D For once, the dive light was a must to see where your buddy was approximtely, we used the flag line to stay in contact. It was funny not to see the bottome even when touching it, everything was moving so you never knew in which directions we were going or almost. We learned a lot, we knew tht at least we could trust our compass to come back.

Our dive was about 35min in total, we had a blast, literally ;o)

For once, I almost found as little visibility as we have in Belgium ;) Actually it is normalyl much darker than what we had today still, but what made it really tough is the surf ad everything moving around - I still feel it ;)

Would I do it again ? yes of course ;) Not alone, and with a buddy you can trust of course :D

Thought you'd like to know some crazy folks got wet in the 40F water of Back Beach !

Starving people will eat things that would normally sicken them to survive.

A New England diver desperate to dive after a long winter of miserable conditions is not very different. :D

You're braver than us! I joined to froggies for a dive yesterday, but we saw the waves at white beach in Manchester and thought of the hidden currents and went out for lunch instead. We visited the Diving Locker in Gloucester after lunch to learn some commercial diving history (a must see if your dive gets stormed out). My buddy and I checked out Nile's Beach just for kicks, but the water was the color of old coffee so we bagged it. Better luck next weekend.

I was actually wondering if Manchester would have been a better bet to avoid the high seas... but since we were close to rockport and we did not want to do Pebble beach, we just sticked to what was close ;)

This was indeed my feeling... It was realy too long ago especially since my last one was aborted before I hit the water for good... frozen regs before getting wet ! And when I mean frozen, it was !

Glad to hear you're getting in the water! I'm looking forward to getting back in myself and I'm almost willing to dive such conditions. Almost. :D

Why didn't you try Front Beach? It usually has slightly better vis than Back Beach.

Do you have any concern that the heavy concentration of sandy particulates might mess up your piston o-rings on your non-sealed regulator?

Honestly ?? don't do it ;o) I would not do it ! I do not mind poor viz or very dark viz, but surf and waves as we had... I almost got seasick down there ;)

My buddy Jens proposed Back Beach, Tide was pretty high and it was almost touching the stairs in Front Beach... Even the entry in Back beach was tough, the only sandy part was fully covered.

As for particulates in my regulators... I hope not !!! I rinsed them very thoroughly, so I do not expect issues, I will properly test them, I won't get into the same situation on my previous non-dive ;)

I'm ready to dive anytime !
