Greetings urchin divers,
Sunday 6/23 is coming up.
The conditions look good
SUN
NW wind 10 to 15 kt, rising to 15 to 20 kt in the afternoon. Seas 5 to 8 ft. Wave Detail: NW 2 ft at 5 seconds, NW 6 ft at 8 seconds and S 2 ft at 16 seconds.
This translates to shin slappers and pleasantly breezy on shore and in the cove. Maybe a little fog early then the sun will shine.
The tide will be low at 7:00am so I won’t be in a huge hurry to get in.
Meet time will be 8:00 am at the cove.
If you have never been to one of these please read the sticky thread on pro tips and information.
You will also need to fill out a liability waiver so I can have one on file.
I’m going to try and build a sorting board for this dive. That’s basically a plywood board with board sides and a tapered exit shoot. It can be placed on top of a few barrels then bags full of urchins can be dumped onto the board and we can sort out all the by-catch such as cone and turban snails, small abalone, rocks, sea weed, etc.
We can also separate out all the larger urchins for people who want to consume them.
I will bring a little wasabi this time and we can sample some uni.
See everyone there!
Happy diving
