Joe, it looks pretty promising. Glad they finally up-sized the viewfinder on their Rebel series. Looks like they've incorporated a lot of the features from the 40D. If you don't mind not having a dedicated aperture dial, this could be a pretty nice compact u/w DSLR.

Looks good. There are a heck of a lot of 400d's in the shops around here...

I'm glad to see they added spot metering.

For UW photography I'd probably buy a used 20D or 30D over the XSi. Better performance at high ISO. Though I suppose live view would help considerably for framing while wearing a mask.

lol... the camera hasn't even come out yet or been fully reviewed.

While the higher pixel count of the Xsi might suggest that high ISO noise wouldn't be as good as a 40D, I'm betting that ISO's from 400 to 800, possibly 1600) will be better than the 20D/30D due to use of the DIGIC III chip...

I'm assuming that the microlenses used on the prosumer cameras will continue to provide better low noise performance than the consumer cameras.

Perhaps suggesting the 20D will outperform it was a bit much, but I'd be surprised if the XSi is better in high ISO conditions than the 30D even considering the newer processor.

I've always been a bit of an optics-trumps-electronics sort of guy, so it will be interesting to see.

Here's hoping it causes the price of the 40D to drop a little - it has so many of the 40D features in it.

Interesting conversation with a guy at the camera store today...

It seems that here in Aus, the 450D/XSi is NOT a replacement, but is an "in-between" to the 400D and the 40D...

My translation of that is:
"Canon Australia brought too many 400D's in Aus, so we have to sell them but don't want to cut prices.. so will will sell 450D's at a higher price and make more money from you poor consumers"...

Yeah, I'm cynical..

looks nice, is it $900?
