There has been some question about white balance and the video mode on the NEX-5. the supplied literature really doesnt address it and it is not intuative on the camera. So, I did some checking and this is what I found.

" If you want to use a particular white balance or creative style setting, be sure to set the camera to a shooting mode, such as program, in which thoese settings can be made; if you switch back to intelligent auto or scene select mode, the camera will revert back to its automatic settings. Dont worry about setting other exsposure-related items, such as DRO, or metering mode, which will have no effect."

The other exposure- related function that you can set in video mode is apature.

First you need firmware version 3 or higher. to maintain a fixed aperture you have 2 choices
1) Set the camera to intelligent auto and use the background defocus
2) use the aperture priority setting

Hope this helps

If you want to adjust your white balance on the NEX5, you need to be shooting in P, A, S, or M modes. In any of these modes the lower right command button should be "White balance." (You can also access it through the menu.) Pressing 'white balance' will allow you to scroll though the various pre set while balance effects - flash fluorescent, incandescent, cloudy, etc. In the white balance, there is also a 'custom' setting, and a 'custom set' setting. Click the custom set mode to set your custom white balance underwater. The camera will tell you "Press shutter button to capture data of central area of screen."

Setting the white balance in any of these modes will work in both photo and video modes.
