Dove FT Adams this evening.
almost dead high tide, zero current.
We put in at stone pebble beach and did two short dives to finish my Students OW cert. 25 min at 40 feet and 30 mins at 32.
vis was 8-10, still pretty good considering all the rain. I was raining and foggy during the dive but it is just as wet on the bottom so who cares.
lots of flats and good sized black fish. small school of scup.
water temp was 63 air temp was 60.

pretty good dive overall.

Sounds nice.

Is Ft. Adams near Ft. Weatherill?

Michael

Yes, Ft. Adams is directly across the water from Ft. Wetherill. Make for a long swim through a shipping channel, though. lol. I did a few dives there in '02 and it sounds like the viz hasn't improved much. Gotta get to Ft. Wetherill this summer...........

the best dive spot in fort adams in the southernmoast cove...
when you gto past the Eisinhower house and drive down to the water. and make a right turn. park there and walf down the "goat trail"
its a crappy enterence but its a nice dive gets deeper faster, and the botom structure is a bit more intresting with a handfull of small ledges one that ive found is 10feet hight at about 50 feet to 50 and about 50 feet or so long

Vis have been pretty good there. It was low friday night becuase of the torrential downpours we had all day friday. All the fresh rain water mixing plus some lad run off.
A friend of mine dove FT A sunday and said he had almost 20 foot vis.

I use that entrance as low to high tide drift dive entrance. I also use the stone pebble beach which is farther up the road there. by the brownstone looking retaining wall.

easier entrance with the same type of bottom contour. Also some comedians have a payphone out there that they set in a bucket of cement. It is around 20-25 feet deep and standing upright.

I was in your shop in Newport this past weekend. It looks like a great shop and the owners were quite nice and helpful. I don't think I ever realized how many dive options you have in Newport, including Ft. Adams, until I was there this past weekend.

the payphone must be new this year.. huh. thats funny,
the cove just south of pebble beach is nice too....(one with the lil. pumphouse.
the thing i dont like about that area. is it oftenn gets crowded. as much as i like my fellow divers and almost always have a good conversation with them...
i dont like sittin in trafic when im diving..

Yeah on the weekends it can get a bit busy never as crowed as wetherill. I like to use the area on weekdays for late afternoon early evening dives and maybe on the weekends for drifit dives and night dives.
