I just don't log dives
Today was kinda a big day in my diving goals, not only did I get certified Deco Procedures and Adv Nitrox by Jo, instructor at IDH, but we also dove a new dive site today, Ko'olina Arch, about 5 miles from Ko'olina. This is my first dive report BTW, so please bare with me.

First off, the discoverers of the arch have yet to give it a formal name yet, but we are working on it. Anyhow, after doing our initial head to toes and our buddy checks at 30 feet, we descended to 150ft, right onto the arch. Unfortunately our depth limit is at 150 and there was about 10 feet of swim through that I would have liked to explore a little more.

Heading east from the swim though was a wall rising up from about 160-165 feet up to around 130ish. Lots of cool little tunnels and such, but I the fish life was a little less than desired. Of course we soon found out why at the end of the dive, a nice 10 foot Galapagos shark was following us around wondering why were in his house. Although I was slightly narc'd, I still think the big guy swimming around with us is still safer than parking my truck at Electric Beach. After about 5 more minutes of exploring we began our ascent that included 20 minutes of deco on 50EAN. Waiting for us at the surface was the 6-pack 3/4 Time, ready to haul us out of the water. All in all it was a pretty nice dive.

Now that I have my class out of the way, does anyone know about a deep wreck on the West Side?

Did Jo's dreads help you find your way back? LOL. Nice size shark. Congrats on the cert.

Actually, I think the shark thought a tako was on Jo's head

Sorry, the shark was only 6 feet long, and the new site is now called Nanakuli Archway. Goodtimes.

Congrats on getting your deco procedures and adv nitrox. I've yet to find a deep wreck on the leeward coast. However, there are plenty of cool dives out there. One is called Helmet love, it's about 150 and it's a field of conch shells. There is Shark city and secrets. Ironically Shark city has no sharks but secrets has Eddie the anorexic shark. There are also a lot of good ledges, but it requires a Mix.

I've been talking to Jo about doing some diving once I get back.

enjoy the dive

on your new certs. I was originally thinking on taking the DIR-F class next month at IDH, but after further reading, I'm kinda thinking on taking the the Adv. Nitrox. Jo's TDI class seems a lot more comprehensive than a 3 day crash and burn. Does anyone out there have any experience with the two or a comparison?

Jo's class involves a lot of DIR type lessons. While not required, I think DIR-F would have been pretty handy before I took the class. And it was definitely more than a 3-day crash and burn. I'm still thinking about taking fundies.

congrats fishb0y...evny you, being able to go that deep....better fro me that I don't though...I would never come up again

From what I understand the DIR-F class was initially designed to better prepare people for further technical or cave diving. When I did my Adv Nitrox course I didn't have the basic skills that I really needed and I really flounder through the course. I personally would have liked to have taken either the DIR-F or the essentials class before I started technical diving. I've never heard any one say they didn't get any thing out of the course even if they only got a provisional pass. Also it's really hard to get into a DIR-F in Hawaii. If one comes along I'd take it.

Enjoy the dive

John
