Hi!! A little background about me first - I'm a 25 yr old Aussie chick living in London, never dived before. My brother who lives in Vancouver turns 30 in November and we are going diving in the Caribbean to celebrate. He is a seasoned diver but it will be my very first time. I'd like to get him something special and memorable for his birthday and I thought something scuba related would be good but as I've never dived before I've got no idea what would be useful and/or fun!!
So, any suggestions would really be appreciated. Something techy, gadgety, obscure and cool would generally appeal to him! Thanks in advance!

When you say it will be your very first time do you mean you will be diving with him?

A surprise dive with his sister whether it's a regular dive (if you have time to get certified) or going along with you on a "Discovery Dive" would probably make his day. Divers LOVE to share their sport with their loved ones.

Welcome to SB, flipiti.

Absolutely agree with Ber, none of my friends or siblings dive and the best present they could ever give me is to share scuba with me. Your brother will be so thrilled to share scuba with you.

the way I read your post is you are already scheduled to go on your first dive together and are looking for a "neat" gift to give him. Something tangible that he will have in the future...hmmm good question....letmme think =)

I was going to say the same thin as Ber Rabbit. Get certified and don't tell him.....go on a dive with him. If my sister did that for me I would be very happy. That would be a big deal. Other than that with out knowing his specific dive needs it would be hard to make any sagestions.

welcome aboard

Hi everyone, thanks for your suggestions so far! Jess4diving has the right idea - I'm already planning on trying out diving once we are there with him which is the purpose of the trip, so present-wise I'm actually looking for a diving related object/gadget to get him on top of sharing that experience together. Keep the ideas coming! Thanks again!

Hi,
from what I have read I understood that you never tried diving before and you have no idea about it, so I strongly recomend that you get certified or when you dive try to do it with a certified instructor in "discover scuba"
Never ever dive like that with a none certified instructor as it is a big risk !! which you will take un nessesery , There are alot to learn which is the reason why you need to get certified before you dive !!

as for the gift I think you can get him underwater camera if he dont have one or some sort of under water tourch / dive computer ..etc try to find out somethign which he dont have and get it for him

Hope this help

How about a gift certificate from his local shop, would recommend contacting his local shop, my shop keeps records of my gear, and we have regular discussions on the what's next portion, they may be able to direct you.
