Yep. I'm a newbie. Barely 40-dives under my belt in the Pacific Ocean right off Southern California coasts. A bit late in the game, but better than never.

7mm wetsuit will handle the cool water just fine.
I grew up in the Far East and remembered the vivid underwater scenery well, but there is something alluring about the murky California water and the kelp forests.
