I have never been SCUBA diving before, but I want to learn and my squad uis offering this class coming up. Do you think this would be a good class to learn in? the only thing that bothers me is when I have been snorkling, my ears pop alot and I don't like that feeling of pressure in my head. What is the best way to deal with that?

I talked to a couple people who have ahd it before and they said I should be okay, but I am still kind of apprehensive.

Well it really depends who is giving the training (how in depth is the course) and whether or not it is something you want to pursue.

To be proficient as a diver you need to be doing allot of reading, researching, and most importantly practicing (diving)...

Do you know how to valsalva (clear or pop your ears when you decend) and are uncomfortable with it or is it painful until you return to the surface?

I do know of a couple courses that begin with the basics and progress through to working / problem solving underwater later in the training. This is the military training focus as well and it seems to be better sometimes if the student had no previous training and picked up no habits from a different style of diving...

There are many variables to consider but remember, you can always step down from the training and then go back to it when you feel you are ready. Do not stay in it unless you are comfortable and you enjoy the challenge.

They will teach you about what to do about your ears in the first pool session. After a while you will get good at clearing your ears.

Should you take the class? If YOU want to learn to dive then do it. Don't worry that you might have some problem. If you want to learn you can do it. If you enjoy snorkling you will likely also enjoy diving. About the only down side of diving is that you spend more time messing with the equipment than you do under water
