I need some advice on a speargun
I go to the Keys every year to go lobstering, I have no issues getting the lobsters, however I always see some decent fish swimming nearby. I do have a pole spear but I think I would be able to land more fish with a gun.
We mainly stay in the gulf... within a few miles of shore because some of the people that will be with us won't/can't dive past 6-7'
Also the vis is usually really good.
So what gun would be best for this?
I dont mind spending money if it needs to be spent... but i also dont want to get a gun that will drop a 100# fish when the biggest i will see will be a fraction of that

It all depends on what you want to spend. You can go with a Biller 48 should do what you want. If you want something with a little more range a koah is one of the best especially for the price. John charges 500 for anything between a 42 and 55. It depends on how much range you want and how much you want to spend. You can take big fish with most spearguns.

I shoot a Biller 48, although I hope at some point to move up to a Koah. In the meantime, the Biller seems to do the job pretty well. Max range is 12 feet, and I don't think I have the shooting accuracy to go beyond that yet. Something else I learned is that you shouldn't buy a gun unless you know you can load it. I'm a wuss, and there's no way I could load some of those cannons that the good spear fishermen use. The Biller loads pretty easy. And it was cheap, $120 on eBay.

You probably want something that is easy to hip load, and easy to swing. Our last trip down, I used a 8' Crist polespear and my single banded 36" Deathstick.

I would recommend a 36-48" wood gun with butt extension. I'd consider JBL, AB Biller, and Ocean Rhino. Here are some links:

Good luck. Be safe.

Take a look at some Euro guns . They are super light and accurate . The down size is you need to be strong to cock a mega one band 48 inch shaft gun . Super fast to reload in the water .
