I'm a Fish!
Hi-

I will be starting my dive lessons in about 10 days, so I guess I'm really not even an official newbie yet. But anyway, my family lives in Texas, mainly around the Austin/Seguin area. I am beginning to scout out possible dive sites for my next visit to the Great State. I will be certified by then and plan on having a few lake dives under my belt by then, but I'll be pretty green still. (I live in Illinois). Any suggestions for places I could check out in that area, or I would be happy to get to the Houston/Galveston area.
I am really interested in rig diving.

Any ideas/links to websites/ or whatever would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Juls

First of all,

Welcome to the boards and the family. We are happy to have ya.

Now to answer your questions,

Lake Travis and Canyon lake are both in the Austin area or close by. There is a really good group of folks in the Austin area who dive on a regular basis and would be willing to hook up with you.

Let us know when you are comming down and I'm sure someone will speak up and be willing to go.

As far as rig diving goes, so far we have only found one charter that tags the rigs, and they run out of Port Aransas (near Corpus). Normally you would have to get on a scheduled trip thru a dive shop. There is a couple of threads on the Texas section. You just need to walk backwards thru them to find them.

Welcome again,

Tom

You have come to right place. I can't answer your question but it seems Mr. Vyles has done a wonderful job of that. But I will add that it seems 90% of Texas is on the board.

Have fun, dive safe.

Chad

Travis and Canyon Lakes are the local choices - - Aquarena Springs is my personal favorite - but you need to pass a class & volunteer to be able to dive there. Not much of an options for the casual visitor.

BUT - there are a pile of us from the Austin neighborhood - just let us know and somebody'll be diving when you're around.

Welcome!
