Well my stepfather got me hooked by renting gear when I was 11(now 21) and gave me a "do this, but dont do this" sort of training and off we went. I had my own rental gear (he rented using a friends C card). We took the gear to a beach off of north Panama (the country) and did some reef diving down to 40' . Since then I haven't had $$ or time to get certified (I still dont but, that wont stop me from getting certified now) I'm now attending USF and want to get certified just to be able to dive to get away from everything and maybe get some dinner.

I am planning on getting certified. (I just got the NAUI books today) I haven't gone under since that time and wont until I have my own card. It was stupid but I had a reassuring adult saying it was ok and I didn't know any better.

Hi there! My name is Kayla! I've been diving for just over two years... and loving every minute!

I'm glad to hear that you're getting legally certified... I think that you would be very hard pressed to find a dive shop anywhere that would rent you gear/ tanks.. etc. without being certified.

I hope to get to know you better!

Safe diving! (In the future! ;) )
Kayla

Heya and welcome to the Board! This a great place to hang out during a SI. You’ll meet tons of new friends and dive buddies right here! This place has a wealth of knowledge to offer divers of any level.

Glad to hear it! Look around the Florida Conch Divers Forum

Welcome to the board. They give those little cert cards for a reason.
Glad you're going to get formal training. It'll help keep you alive.

Welcome to the board!

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

I'm glad you managed to live through your youth. When I look back on the things that I did when I was younger, I wonder how on earth I made it.

I'm glad to hear that you will be getting certified before attempting to dive again. It may scare you when you find out what could have gone wrong, but it will probably be what I call a "healthy fear".

Good luck with your classes!

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.
