Newbie diving in BVI

We used Dive BVI as well. We had chartered a cat and they came and picked us up and took us on the dives. We only stayed on Tortola our first and last night before we got on the cat. Can't remember the name of the hotel, it was that memorable.
The Rhone is good, we also dove the dogs and indians. I had some friends stay here:

And we moored there one night. They had a local band playing and everyone was dancing, it was fun. Boy, looking at that link made me depressed!
If you want to do a good deed, there is an orphanage in Road Town, very close to the water. It was about a five minute cab ride from the Moorings. It's called Rainbow Children's Home. We took two garbage bags full of clothing and other items they needed to them. They were VERY appreciative. We happened to get there when they were eating lunch, and their eyes were as big as quarters when they saw us and the large bags. The cab driver thanked us about ten times on the way back to the hotel for thinking of the kids. If you want contact info, let me know and I can look it up.

If you want a quiet, secluded place - then check out Olde Yard Village on Virgin Gorda. It's the newest property on the island, has a freshwater pool, gym, restaurant/bar on site and is located in the middle of the island. You are literally minutes from everything. We have dive trips departing every morning at 8:30 for 2 tanks and afternoon one tanks at 2:30. PM me if you have questions. You won't be disappointed if you choose VG.

Boat Diver:
Just returned from 1 week in St Thomas. St Thomas is one huge ghetto. The diving was OK. Defintely do the Rhone and vist St John if you can but, again, STAY AWAY FROM St. Thomas, it is one big S Hole!!!!

I did 20 dives in the BVI this past year and enjoyed just about everyone one of them. Some of my favorites are Painted Walls, just off Peter Island, Vanishing Rock, Great Tobago, the Playground off JVD, The Indians, Pelican Island, and the Rhone, which I did 3 times in one day, including a great night dive.
I assume you are going to be on Tortola, where I dove with http://www.aquaventurebvi.com/ in June, and http://www.webedivinbvi.com/ in Oct. WeBeDivin bought Aquaventure, and they have several excellent boats and equipment.
If you make it to JVD, Capt. Colin of http://www.jostvandykescuba.com/ is great to dive with.
We learned to dive with DiveBVI out of Leverick Bay on Virgin Gorda, and they are excellent: http://www.divebvi.com/
