So....the wife and I have been doing some digging and found some great deals. So far we like two:

1) Statia (St. Eustatius) - Staying at the Old Gin House and diving with the Golden Rock Divers

or

2) Roatan - Staying at Anthony's Key Resort.

This will be our very first "ocean dives" after certification. We do not mind the down-home nature of Statia, and we certainly LOVE the DIVE!DIVE!DIVE! nature of Roatan.

Any advice/insights would be helpful. Oh and we would be going in June....

Roatan............. hands down. Great place for new divers, lots to see and easy diving, lots of gorgeous reefs with fishlife. You will be able to dive dive dive and improve your skills tremendously. Take some spray like Cactus Juice to use between dives for the sand fleas which are the only negative about Roatan.

Having been to Roatan 25+ times(we sold our house there last Oct) I would vote for it--be sure & bring your deet during June though, the no seeums can carry you off during summer months(the ONLY downfall to Roatan IMO)....BTW our house was 2 miles east of ARK---Sundancer in Sandy Bay....

If you have any further questions about Roatan, PM me(our son worked in the photoshop there for about 2 years---know the place WELL)

Roatan is known more for its diving.

Since AKR is an all-inclusive it would be a good first choice.

Both of my Roatan trips were to COCO View and I would go back tomorrow but my wife would frown upon it! (She is a non-diver)

My wife and I went to Cocoview on Roatan last fall great trip but, the other downfall to Roatan is the rainy season (Fall as best I can tell). Great time though good diving etc...

If its all about the diving then Roatan is the obvious choice IMHO. AKR is a great choice. Lovfed the op and the location.
