2014 was one of my worst years as far as diving goes. I made less than one hundred dives for the first time in more than a decade due to poor conditions. We had great visibility last week but it came with a ripping current. This year began on a much brighter note.
Shutterbug Merry wanted to dive Rocky Point again to shoot Christmas Tree worms. I decided to go with wide angle to show what the reefs look like. Visibility was better than thirty feet with no current this time. The rockfish that filled the cracks last week were nowhere to be found. Lobsters and Sheephead were the dominate bunch today.

With some of those, it's hard to believe they're underwater!

We're not used to seeing more then fifteen feet around here, so we're enjoying every minute of it.

You need to get to Catalina more often. The past 3 weekends have consistently had 100+ vis on at least one dive each trip. Honestly I don't recall a day in the last year where he viz was anything less than 30 to 40' on the island. Has been a great year, and the water is STILL relatively warm !

I dove Deadman's today and Shaws yesterday. Shaws had about 20'. Deadman's today, though, probably 30-40'. Was amazing. Saw 5 leopard sharks. Still tons of sargassum, though.

I'm thinking of getting on the Sundiver Express tomorrow if anyone is interested in buddying up!

Dove Shaws yesterday to bring in the new year and had the whole reef to myself, vis was great easy 30'/40' surface temp 63 at depth 59/60 deg 60 min bottom time. Great Dive with nice blue water.
