I'd like to hear from other MX10 users with comments on WHICH ARM to use with the MXTENDER (before I purchase). I like the straight, extensible arm show on Greg's site but arent sure WHICH ONE it is.(?)
Also am looking at the
SeaandSea Flexible Arm 12.6" from B&H
(its not on the SeaandSea website)
website

Anyone have strong preferences?
Anyone have trouble with re-positioning the flexible arm?
Any alternative suggestions?
Any second-hand MX10 bases out there?

The extensible arm is the "black extension" that allows for the flash to be positioned off the camera in a fixed setup. To be used, you also need the fiber optic cable, and the base plate(if you have a "new" model of the MX10). The camera is then setup in the following configuration:
  • connect base to camera if required
  • connect one end of the fiber optic cable to flash connection point on the camera, the other to the flash
  • the arm then connects the camera and flash ends of the fiber optic cable to provide a stable support.

I can only speak on the arm from Greg's sight. Easy to assemble, to use, and if I want more flexibility, I release the flash from the fixed position of the arm.

So is this the Sea&Sea IV arm?
Do I need th ARM ADAPTER in addition to the Multistay base?

Here's the options I was presented when I asked what to buy:
Option 1: Fiber Optic Cable alone

Option 2: Fiber Optic Cable and arm system:
Fiber Optic Cable
Strobe Arm Adapter
Arm Adapter *
Sea Arm IV *
Multi-Stay Base *

The multi-stay base is required if you have a newer model of the MX10 with the thread connection (located at the bottom of the camera)

* items are only available through a Sea&Sea distributor

Hope this helps

I was thinking about getting the fiber-optic strobe extender for my MX-10 too, but it was a bit expensive. GBUndersea told me about the MXtender, but while cheaper it was still more than I wanted to spend.

Last week, I was in the local computer and audio component department store, and saw that there are now high quality fiber optic cables with rubberized shielding available for connecting some stereo components. They run in the $20 range, and aside from the connecters (which I'm confident I can make myself), they look perfect for my needs and come in several lengths. If I get one working with the MX-10, I'll post a how-to.
