Hey there. I am new to Boston. I've been here for about two months and since I am in a transitional phase I have only had one chance this summer to get wet. Not at all acceptable I would say. (I'm also new to Scubaboard as well)

I really don't know much about the Boston area and would appreciate any insights on diving out here. Is it all ocean or is there freshwater diving out here as well? I've done both. I'm from Toronto originally and am pretty used to chilly waters with poor vis. I actually dove last weekend in a lake north of TO where you needed a light to see anything at depth. The water was the colour of dark tea.

Anyway, please drop me a line if you are in the Boston area and have some insight and/or are looking for another dive buddy.

Cheers

Hey! Welcome to the East Coast!! I'm from Boston. I can give you a few dive places if you like. I'm afraid the vis. around here is never very good, but there are tons of lobsters! lolz. PM me if you want some dive sites. (Click on my member name and then click on the option that says "Send Afraid_of_fish" a PM.

oh and Welcome to ScubaBoard!!

You might want to check out the New England Lobstah Divers forum... thats where the local divers hang out on SB. To answer your question though, the good diving around here is in the ocean, but there is a pond or two that aren't too bad for training dives and whatnot. Most folks dive Cape Ann, because it's a convenient place to get in a bunch of different shore dives.

Personally, I've found much better visibility (up to 50 feet) south of the city, but unless you're on a boat it's tough to get to good sites there.

Welcome to Boston, and to Scubaboard.

Hi, and welcome to the SB! yes, most people will dive in the Gloucester area..which the viz is not that bad and good lobstering. if you have any question or would like any other info. just send me a message

Uh... maybe if you live on a boat or within 100 yards of the ocean. How do you propose getting your gear to the dive site without a car?

Actually, I guess if you were motivated you could take the commuter rail to Gloucester and have a cab take you to a beach or boat. You might be better off trying to hitch a ride with a buddy though.

Yeah itd be pretty hard without a car. find a buddy thats willing you pick you up and drop you off lolz, or else buy a boat, i guess. I dont think getting on the train is a good idea, because you'd have to get on at.. where do you live? Andrew? park street? Down town crossing? someone would try and steal it, people know how expensive divegear is. Actually, i would take the redline to quincy center via braintree and then get on the commuter rail. thats fairly safe.

good luck, lolz.

hey there and welcome to Scuba board!

as said above, you should post with the New England Divahs and they will give you some tips and maybe even a ride if you're lucky! Mazal Tov and a Blessing on Your new home.
