Who loves snorkelling? I LOVE snorkelling!

I went to a bay for the first time last week and I am addicted!

Anyways was just wondering what's the most efficient kick when swimming underwater with fins? I'm real comfy in the water, I go surfing alot but have never done snorkelling before. I think of all the awesome stuff I miss out when wiping out on a 1 foot wave! :D

I know how to do flutter, frog and dolphin kick well. Dolphin kick is my favourite mainly because it's fun to swim like one and chase fish.

But I don't see alot of snorkellers use this when I went to the bay or even the frog kick. Is it no good? Flutter kick tires me a little more for some reason. Maybe it's just me? Lots of people at the bay when I went.

What's the best kick to give you good down time or is it different for different people?

Thanks! :)

Edit: Looking forward to my second snorkelling trip in a week! :D

Have you thought about diving in the Mexican beaches?
I am sure you will not regret it, besides being cheap and some are virgin beaches.
Is just to be close to the right people!!

Welcome to the world of snorkelling, Pointyman. Compared with scuba diving and free diving, snorkelling is mercifully free of regimentation and dogmatism when it comes to equipment and swimming styles. There are no hard and fast rules, other than being responsible for one's own safety in the water. That's why I enjoy snorkelling so much too, in my case in the North Sea off the North East coast of England. If you have found that certain strokes work successfully for you, then you are already beginning to develop snorkelling skills that suit your strengths and preferences.

Howdy,

Snorkeling is loads of fun and a swim kick is dependant on the person's style and type of flipper. What type of flippers are you currently using for one? If you are going to use a flutter kick with the wrong type of flippers it will drain your energy. Have a look online or at your local store and ask some questions. What ever your favorite kick is should depend on what type of flippers you use. ALso if you are diving down under the water alot or if your at the surface is something else you should ask yourself will also depend on what the best kick and flipper you need....

Anyways hope that some sort of help, good luck and ask questions :D

Hi thanks for reply

The ones I used were borrowed, but they were long fins. Kinda looked like some US diver pro things. I live in Australia by the way.

I'm more of a diver rather than surface snorkelling. Fun! :D

I'll check the different kicks again with my new gear, going to buy them today.

If dolphin kick is my strongest kick, should I get monofins? I don't mind sticking with the ones I used last time. I guess I'll experiment. Monofins should be half the price :eyebrow:
