Hi I'm new to scuba board. My husband and I have logged about 50 dives in Belize, Utila, Cabo and Hawaii. We are going to Cozumel in June and Key West in July. We have never been to either location and are looking forward to some good info!

Welcome Aboard! from a former San Diegan. Going on my first Coz trip in May but suggest you try diving the Cayman Salvager while you're in Key West. It is a former cable laying ship sunk about 5 miles south of Key West/Boca Chica. The ship was originally on it's side but a hurricane righted it and it's sitting firmly on it's keel now. It's 92' to the bottom, the deck is at around 70' and easy to get to by following the bouy line. Recommend trying the fresh Key Lime pie at the pie factory downtown. If you are looking for a special day, rent a car and take a drive up to Islamorada to get a little more flavor of the Keys. Stop and get a coffee and souvenier mug at Baby's Coffee at MP 15, go shopping at Bass in Islamorada and have dinner at Pierre's or The Morada Bay Beach Cafe (less expensive) next door, both at MP 81 on the north side of the road. Try to time it so you can have an after dinner drink out on their nicely done beach at sunset. Enjoy!

I can also whole heartedly recommend the Cenotes. I did not have time for Cozumel AND cenotes so I had to pick one. The caves were unlike anything I had ever seen. Go for it (just don't kick up any silt!).

Thanks for the replys.

I was wondering if you used a diving op in Key West and can you recommend one?

Welcome, I will not address cozumel because the diving is great there no matter where you are. As for Key West (the Keys in general). The USS Vandenberg should be down by the time you go in June. I prefer the diving around Largo. There is the Spegil Gorove which is a great dive plan at least 2 tanks there. Christ of the Abyss should be a must do. Shallow but a great experence. The Dwain and the Bibb are sister ships about a 1/4 mile apart. Molassis reef is shallow and a great late day dive, and the Binwood is a WWII and may be the only ship sunk by a german U boat on the US coast.

Welcome to the board. A wealth of info and opinions here. I love diving Coz, as do many others. Visit the Cozumel Forum and you will get tons of info for the island. It is very cool there. Just my o2, I dive with Scubamau. I dont know what you prefer in a dive op but they will make you feel like very lazy divers doing all the kit work for you. All you do is dive. And it's mainly drift diving adding another layer of lazy diving.lol. Have fun digging around the forums. Welcome again. kev
