Hello to all and thanks in advanced for all the info on the site. I am new to the underwater world and i have a lot of ???? on gear. I am looking to buy my first set of reg, second stage and alternet. I have been looking at SHERWOOD, SCUBAPRO, and DACOR. Out of all the models and trying a couple i realy like the way the DACOR VIPER because of how it vents the air to the side of the face and not under the mask.

My question is two in two parts.
1.) do any of the other companys vent this way?

2.) and what is the major def. between the DACOR VIPER AMERICA and the DACOR VIPER TEC METAL?

Any info you can give would help.

hi there and welcome to the board! check out the equipment forums for more comprehensive answers to your querries:)

Welcome to SB ogre! And to the wonderful world of scuba. As a newbie, you'll find ScubaBoard very helpful with everything you want/need to know. SBers are the friendliest folks and always willing to give their opinions or help. I don't know the answers to your questions about DACOR regs but I'm sure it's been discussed in some of the other forums. You can use the search feature or just browse around the board. You can post your questions too. Doesn't matter if they've been asked before. Take note of the replies, where they dive, water temps, etc. You'll want to find the ones similar to what you dive. There's so much experience here, it really cuts down on the "trial and error." Welcome aboard and enjoy!

Welcome to SB and especially wlecome to your new addiction! I have been diving now a little over two months. Have only had the opportunity to dive in my local quarry but have discovered that I am hopelessly addicted. I will be going into withdrawels because today is the last day for the seasnon and I have no moeny to travel right now.. Happy diving.

Welcome aboard Ogre.
I haven't used the DACOR Viper, although I did have an old PACER XL I retired last year. It was a great reg, and had the longer exhaust ports that kept bubbles away from your mask. I've read numerous times on this board though, that those who have used the Viper didn't like the way it felt in your mouth after a while, and that it made their jaws sore. Use the search feature and search for threads on this subject.
You stated in your post that you were also interested in SHERWOOD. I know some of their regs come with both the short and long exhaust ports, so you can put the longer port on. It might be an option for you. SHERWOOD makes a good product, simple design, easy to service.
Good luck in your research,
C-Dawg

Welcome ogre.

Hope you find what you are looking for in a reg, as to my opinion, they are damn near bullet proof work horse, Not to mention you can get them serviced just about anywhere. Also get one wih an ajustable second stage so you can make it as easy as you would like to breath off of.

Welcome to SCUBABOARD. If you have not yet done so be sure to fill out your profile and let us know where in the world you are. If you give your city, you might just find a local dive buddy and sometimes the answer to your questions just may be location dependent.
