Hello, sorry if this is the wrong thread to post in, but I'm completely new to diving and I've never dived before in my life, I will be taking a diving course just to learn more about then ill be doing the PADI OpenWater course and was wondering if it really hard to pass.

Thank you :)

No matter what happens pls remember 3 things.

1. If unwell or you feel unsafe call off the dive.
2. Relax, there are guys to help you so don't try to do more then you have to.
3. Enjoy yourself :)

Thanks guys :D

I also wish I had other dive friends that live locally I can go diving with :(

1 more thing when diving in an ocean is there lots of sharks :(

There are not many sharks. The interesting thing, sharks are curious about us. I have dove with lots of sharks, and never felt threatened- but I have always kept a respectful attitude towards them. Landlubbers retreat to JAWS and other such films, but for OW you will not be put in any danger. Once you get comfortable with the UW world, you'll most likely love to see them. Hard to believe but true.

Jakey, there are divers in the Melbourne area that you can meet and get to know. You'll likely meet some people as you get your certification, and you'll meet others when you go on organized dives. You are going to be surprised at how fast your circle of diving friends grows. You can also read and post in the Australia geographic forum here on SB to get an idea of what's going on locally to you. Here's a link: Australia

You don't really need buddies now. Your instructor and dm are your best friends for now. Listen to everything they tell you but find a group of people that you really can trust. If for some reason you feel they are either out for $ or are too gun ho, go to another shop.
