Hello All,
I'm pretty new to Dayton area and even newer to being a commited diver. Is there any Dayton or Midwest Divers that could help a fella find a relaxing area to dive? We just had a new addition to the family so traveling too far for a weekend dip would be difficult. Also would it open up my possibilities if i look into specialty diving such as cave, ice or anyother type of specialty diving? I'm a southern beachbum transplanted and simply refuse to believe there isnt some good diving in all areas if you just look a little deeper. Maybe if someone could suggest a local dive club to join would also be helpful. Thanks and i look forward to diving with you all.

Welcome to the board. & the world of diving.

Check out the Great Lakes Wrecking Crew forum. Lots of Ohio divers there. (& Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois.)

Welcome! We met a some excellent divers from Dayton at our Meet and Greet a couple of weeks ago. Just keep an eye in this forum and you will find what you are looking for!

*cough* *cough*....

This poor guy has been transplanted into Dayton OH.....sheesh, only hosers and wannabes dive outta that city.

Anyway, Deep Blue, howdy...my name's Big-T....some people call me Tony. I'm in Dayton, and the wife lets me out to dive every now and again. I ususally dive with my brother and I have another buddy I dive with a lot.

There's a quarry about 1.5 to 2 hours directly north of Dayton called Gilboa. There's also Portage and Whitestar that are a little further drive. About the same distance south is a quarry in LAGrange KY that the KY Piranah Patrol frequents (they're a bunch of nut-balls too). There's a plce in Columbus that I've never been to. There's also a place about 1 hr. west of Dayton called "Hidden Paradise" or something. Then there's Blue Springs in Indiana which is about 2 hours from dayton as well.

I'm going to dive gilboa a lot this year (namely b/c I bought a season pass) and I have some new gear I'm going to be diving with, so this will be "test and tune" time, then next year, I hope to make some wreck dives.

BTW...as a beach bum, I highly suggest diving dry, or getting some cold water gear pretty darn soon as the season is real short for 3 mil diving up here. There's plenty of opportunity for ice diving in the winter around here....but I'm not an ice diver, so that's my "dry" season.

Glad you found us! This is a great place to spend your SI, but watch out, it's addictive!

Watch out for Tony, and for .... well they'll soon be saying stuff soon. Why watch out? They're just too much fun to be around! :D
