I am doing my open water exam in a fresh water quarry in England, it will be about 15-16 degrees, and want to try my new suit in a swimming pool first so I can get used to it. My instructor has said that this will contaminate my suit, but also said that I could put the suit in a rinse wash in the washing machine. Would this one dive affect my suit and would a washing machine damage it more?

Top Tip

Put the suit on then have a shower before you go in the pool. Get the suit nice and wet and it wont soak up too much chlorinated water. Rinse when you get out and it should be fine.

I wouldn't put it in the washing machine.

I wash my wetsuit (7+7mms) regularly, at least twice during the summer.

All the people in my club do so, no problems whatsoever.

Obviously this is only for wet-, not dry-suits.
