I just got a Sea life SL960D strobe for my cannon G11 (OEM housing). Ok totally new to strobes. This thing washes out everything when I take a pic in the living room with it. I am assuming this is normal?

2 weeks until St. Maarten and I can get it under water.

im only posting to bump this, cause I am no expert more like a noob in training. however I would assume this is not normal. I would think you can do better than that. yes you need a bunch of light underwater but I would think that the metering could be adjusted and would compensate for being on the surface.

if not then how would it do any different in the water?:D

Looke here and try Nemrods advice:

Unfortunately your strobe flashes always full power, so you have to correct that with the G11.
- Set EV to -1 or -2 on the G11
- try the variuos settings P, Av and Tv with objects of different colour at night and if possible in a pool
- Shoot in manual if this is the only way to go; set aperture to the max and shutter speed to 1/60, shoot, watch whe pict, adjust shutter speed and eventually aperture to get the right the exposure.
- Ask Nemrod, he is the S90/G11 settings guru

I have a friend and she had a G10 and the Intova strobe, she never got it to work, but i guess it was because she did not understand anything of photographing nor she sticked her nose in the manual.
The G11 is much more than a P&S and you may need some time to understand how she works at best.
