Help!

I have just ordered a new housing and strobe and I do not have a clue so this is probably the first of many daft questions....

I have been photographing with a Canon S45 and internal strobe. My new rig will be a Canon EOS 20D, the 17-85 EF S lens with the Ikelite housing and the Ike DS-125 strobe which is eTTL compliant.

The (first) question is: If I illuminate something with a 10w HID light do I:

1. Not bother with the strobe at all?
2. Keep it illuminated with the light and let the TTL metering sort it all out?
3. Turn the HID light away to take the picture?

If 3 is the correct answer do I need a small aiming light attached to the rig? Will that create a hotspot in the image?

This is all a bit intimidating so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
