I was thinking of picking up a new digital Sealife to upgrade from the 5 year old 35mm Reefmaster we have now. Will our existing strobe work with the new camera?

I think the little flash guard/deflector is a slightly different size.

you might have to trim it up some. (I think the digital one is smaller/narrower)

(or you can call Pioneer Research who makes/markets the camera and see if they will send you a new one. they are pretty supportive group of their customers.)

At least it was that way for the DC310. Not sure what camera you're trying it on since you didn't mention it. It might be different.

or solution #2 would be to buy the fiber optic link and install it and don't worry about the flash deflector and its alignment.

did you happen to notice that the flash on the DC800 is on the "other side" of the camera from the 35mm reefmaster camera? so it won't work by just bolting on and using the "flash deflector"

so if you did get the DC800, you'd need the "Flash link" (optical cable) which is part number Flash Link (SL962)

then just take off that "flash deflector" and don't use it.

Other than that, the flash that I got with my Sealife 35mm and my DC310 (digital) was the same besides that flash deflector. But I never tried it with swapping the flashes as I got such as great deal when I bought my DC310 and it came with a new flash (and I just sold the old one).

EDIT: SeaLife has a forum on here that you might get an answer directly from the manufacturer.

might I suggest you ask a mod to move your thread to this forum....

Hope that's helpful.

Yes the Standard flash will work witht he DC800, no problem. The only thing you would need is the Flash Link, item#SL962 to attach to both camera and flash. The camera comes with a flash ring adaptor so it is easily set up.
When using the standard Flash, familiarize yourself with the macro Flash Setting which helps close the camera settings down a little for the fixed power strobe. It also would be advisable to get the flash diffuser as well.

Thanks for the help. I ended up ordered a DC1000 Elite package. Hopefully we will capture some good images when we get to Bonaire next week.
