Been thinking about getting certified for years, but never got around to it. Tried it on my honeymoon in Hawaii this past July and I am hooked! I got my OW two weeks ago and my AOW this past weekend. I've been trying to figure out what gear to pick up, and this looks like a great place to start my research. Hello to all.

Welcome to the Board and to our fantastic pasttime! Not sure where you live (update your profile?) but that same thing hapeened to me 2 years ago (in Hawaii, although not on honeymoon) 160 dives later I am a divemaster (mainly training) and enjoying it even more.

On equipment - listen to the professionals you have been with (instructors, dive shop owners) and take what you see here with a grain of salt. That said, make sure you at least try a backplate/wing setup before you buy a BC.

Enjoy diving!

Welcome to the boards!!!

Do your research, Then Try as much different equipment in the water as you can before you buy!!
I did this, Over 2 or 3 Months I tried everything in the rental line at my LDS. I tried other divers personal equipment. What I ended up buying wasn't what I had in mind at first.

I don't have any equipment purchases that I regret. Not all divers can say that!!

Best of Luck!!

Hi there and welcome to ScubaBoard!! :dazzler1:

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest!
If you'll simply click ScubaBoard.com above, you'll be taken to our long list of forums, a wealth of information and resources. My favorite is at the bottom: Singles Dive Club. Be sure to check out New2Scuba forum.

It would help in future diving discussions if you'd complete your Dive Info. You can use the Quick Links above to reach those easily. Sizing a photo for your profile or Avatar can be a challenge; I'm a fumbling amateur, but I get the job done, if you'd like any help?

PM me if I can help you learn your way around; that is - click my username to the upper left, then follow the prompts to send me a "Personal Message." :thumb:

WELCOME to ScubaBoard Bonk!!!
Diving does that, makes you an addict.
I think for most, it's once and your hooked!
No hope, no help; just gotta feed it!
It's a rough life being an addict.
Buying equipment, diving, looking for a new place to dive, talking about diving, dreaming about diving, reading about diving, daydreaming about diving, diving, thinking about diving, cleaning polishing carressing your equipment, writing about diving, diving, preparing to go diving, packing for diving trips, have I mentioned diving?

Finding your information here is difficult, there is so much information to sort through, the members really want you to make up your own mind, and they feed your mind, they don't just give you answers.
There are choices to make, you learn what the choices are, then agonize, then make the choices, then agonize, then make more choices, and you learn.
Also, as you'll read in many threads, learn who to trust, some people give information and advice that thy're not ready to. Many times, after reading the follow ups, they come back and thank the folks for the new knowledge.

Now for my stock message, which is still under construction: I really do have to work on modifying this note!!!
This is a great place to meet people, talk about diving, and get information on just about any aspect of diving -or other subjects sometimes- that you can think of. Roaming through the forums is great help for me.
Now get wet with us and dive into the forums to ask questions, answer those that you can and even chat with folks about diving dreams and nightmares. ScubaBoard is a great place to spend your required Surface Intervals.
When you post a question, be as sure as you can that it's in the right forum or you'll probably find it moved.
The folks here are passionate about their diving, some about their specialty, so the reading can get very interesting, sometimes very hot.
Don't forget, if you haven't already done it, to fill out you profile as completely as reasonable, it'll save you being asked and having to repeat the information often.
Enjoy!

Tom

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

Your in the right place for researching gear. It can take a while to research gear. You may want to start with making a decision between a backplate and wing or a jacket style BC. You reasoning for that choice will most likely affect all of your other choices down the line. Good luck!

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.
