New regulator is an air hog?

Perhaps I misspoke in my previous post. By "adjustment knobs" I was including both the inhalation adjustment knob and the Venturi lever.

The reg I described above had an issue with cracking pressure and Venturi adjustment, both of which affect the total volume of gas delivered by the reg per breathing cycle.

Thanks for all the info. My diving has been the same. No deeper then in the past and the weather conditions here in Micronesia are pretty consistent year round. What I do know is that I went from always having at least 1000 BAR on each dive for a 60 minute dive with my rental gear (which I rented the same set-up for three years) to only being able to make it barely 30 minutes for the same 60 minute dive with my new set-up (no deeper.) I am in good physical condition but can not understand what is causing me to use so much air.

During a dive, does the new reg feel like it's breathing "normally" to you?
Compared to the old rental reg, how does the new reg breathe? (same, easier, harder)
Have you checked your new reg for leaks?

You must have some special gear. "1000 Bar" is pretty impressive for a scuba setup.

Maybe it is a combination of a slow free flow, and other leaks in places like hoses, 1st stage/tank valve o-ring, hose o-rings, spg spool o-rings, leaking octo, etc. I think it would be hard to double your SAC rate only because your primary 2nd stage is slightly leaking. Have your buddy do a conscientious bubble check on you next time you dive. You may find you have several leaks in several locations.

Might want to check your SPG against a known good one at both a high and a low tank pressure to make sure it's reading correctly.
