Hi everyone,
I just got my Padi OW cert and I have been reading all the informative postings regarding info, wreck valley, and New York diving. I am looking to find some buddies to do some local beach dives because I'm really psyched to get into the water and don't think that solo diving is the thing to do. Looking forward to hearing from all of you and picking your brains for as much gear and locale info as possible and hopefully making many posts of my own.

Let me be the first one to welcome to the board and congratulate you for the recent cert Lishorediver!!!

Since you have already been looking around your local area diving, I would just suggest that you fill out your profile so the responses you get to your questions have local content. Also, that is the easiest way to get those local new buddies to find you.

Great to have you join us and glad you found the Board.

Lots and lots of safe diving.

cheers,
Maria

Welcome to the board!

I just joined these boards too and I live in Ronkonkoma. Congrats on becoming certified! I'm curious about which dive shop you train with, my girlfriend and I frequent Dogfish Scuba in Nesconset and Soundview Scuba in Greenport, both PADI shops although we are AOW certified by Tiedemann's in Levitown, a SSI shop. The other welcomers offered excellent advice for getting information about diving L.I. allow me to add my own. Pick up a copy of Capt. Dan Berg's "Long Island Shore Diver". As the name suggests, it lists dozens of beach dive sites from Brooklyn to Montauk. We carry it with us everywhere and have made some excellent dives because of it. Drop me a line and I will be more than happy to go into detail. See ya!

Congrats.

Where did you get certified? They should be able to let you know about diving opportunities in the area, and hook you up with a buddy with similar interests. Your instructor would also be a good resource for information.

Have you joined a local dive club? That's a great way to meet people. If you haven't, check out www.thediveclub.com. They meet in Bayshore on the first Tuesday night of every month. Your shop or the club will most likely have boat trips scheduled you could sign up for, and even get a buddy for. Also check out www.lidaonline.com, there is a beach clean-up dive on Sept 18th that will bring out a lot of local divers. Good place to meet people, dive, and help give back to the environment.

Have fun, and perhaps I'll see you around...
Adam

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

Congratulations on your new certification! You're in the right place to find plenty of diving activities and buddies. There is a lot to learn from the collective wisdom here on the board too.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

:sunny Hi there! My name is Matt. Welcome to Scuba Board! I came here looking for help with my diving dream. I’ve met a lot of nice divers and many helpful divers too. I think you will get the information you need from SB. I look forward to reading more of your posts about your diving adventures. If you’d like to chat, please PM me.
I am looking forward to seeing you some more around the boards!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm glad I finally signed in. there is just too much going on on these pages not to get involved. I'm glad there are alot of locals too. Gives me hope for for a diversified group of buddies.

I went to the author's website and it was the first thing I ordered. I'm glad that it is actually a useful resource. Maybe I'll bump into you at one of the sites.

Adam once bubbled...check out www.thediveclub.com. They meet in Bayshore on the first Tuesday night of every month...
I've been to the website and now I have to make it to the meeting. I'm going to try to make it late this Tuesday after college and see if I can't find a local partner. I have a varying schedule so to find someone who wants to get wet a few times a week may be a challenge.
Thanks for ll the greets and advice. I'm heading to the gear forums to glean as much info as possible before I spend another dime.
