That's interesting, I noticed it has a 3 second recycle time. You might find that to seem like forever. I'm glad that they're getting into real strobes though.

I have one, works good. Here are some sample shots of it.

My only complain is it doesn't have the brightness adjustment. Just a 1/2 to full on the brightness. Otherwise, its a good strobe for the money if you're poor like I am.

Thanks for the inforamation and pics. I, like you, can't afford to spend alot on a strobe right now. I would love to have an Inon. I have learned the manual white balancing quite well because of not having one so far and have taken some very nice pics, but thought that adding one would help in thos dark places to get a pic. Maybe i'll wait a bit longer and buy the better one, as we are not going to be going on a trip for a while.

I also agree that its about time there gettint into strobes. Hopefully in the near future they will have a full line out in strobes to compete with some of the other manufactures.
Thanks again.

They YS27DX is a manual strobe that has a lot more power and adjustability than the Oly and it costs about the same $280 on Ebay.

I just ordered one, and it should be here for my next dive. The reason it doesn't need that much adjustability (brightness) is that it's designed to work with the TTL metering on the Olympus cameras. I especially like that it's a slave - no cables.

Has anyone seen or tried the new olympus flash.

If so let me know what you think of it?

Well I just bought one but don't have it yet. It should be here in the next couple of days. I too like that it's wireless. But I'm disappointed that you found it at a cheaper price....lol...... That's not fair.... :D

Thats a great price for a strobe which looks like a good quality Sea & Sea strobe made for Olympus?

This is exactly right. The strobe is made by Sea&Sea for Olympus.

dhammer,

If the strobe isn't connected directly to the camera then it's not a TTL strobe. Low power isn't compensated for by camera metering.

I have 2 older YS-15 auto and dx strobes, each about the same power output. Together they provide a decent amount of close range light.
