Hello:
I am a new member along with being a new scuba diver. My son and I were recently certified and we flew down to Cancun for our first dive with clear visibility along with warm water. We had a terrific time. I was wondering what type of BC I need to purchase as a recreational diver? Any suggestions? Thanks, Tammy

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

I've got to go with Scott's recommendation. You'll want to check out the Buoyancy Compensators (BC's) and weight systems forum. It's personal preference, but you'll hear a lot of people recommend a Backplate and Wing (BP/W) to you. You might want to look into that by doing a search in that forum, so you'll be familiar with what they are talking about if you are not already familiar with that.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

I greatly appreciate the info. Continue to write. What denominatin are you? Thanks, Tammy
Tammy,
There was recently a change in the TOS which we were asked to not discuss religion. I don't know if by answering your question I'd be in violation so I'll send you a PM.

Tammy, welcome to the board. Hope you find it helpful. This question is often asked by newer divers. The answer is generally the BC which fits you best and is most comfortable for you to use will be the best one for you.

If you go to the top of the page, right below where it says "Welcome, Tammy Young" in the upper right hand corner, there is a line of buttons. The third one from the right is the Search button. You can either enter the name of a BC to see what members have said about that BC, or in Advanced Search you could ask to see only threads about BCs for women that have been started in the 'Womens Views' Forum. Otherwise, you may spend a lot of time reviewing lots of threads about BCs! Still, there is a lot of good information in the archives, and it can be very helpful to making up your mind.

Hope you enjoy the board.

Welcome to the Board Tammy and congratulation on your recent certification. There are quite a number of threads discussing the subject of BC's and BC's specifically designed for women. I would suggest you try going to different dive stores and dry try the different brands a models they offer. Also, if there is a dive club in your area... try to see what ladies there are using and see if you can dry try them as well.

In the end, it all boils down to whatever is more confortable for the kind of diving you will be doing and your own body build. So try and try before you buy.

I have used several BC's in the last few years and would be glad to give you more info if needed. Just PM me.

Maria
